Anlässlich der 10. Generalversammlung vom 12. Oktober 2006 schlug der VJR-Vorstand auf Antrag von Herbert Seiler einstimmig vor, eine Persönlichkeit aus dem Kreis der VJR-Mitglieder zum Ehrenmitglied zu ernennen.

Die Laudatio hält Herbert Seiler:

Er ist schon etwas länger als 10 Jahre dabei und möchte zurücktreten, obwohl er noch lange nicht so alt ist wie die Ältesten unter uns. Obwohl er ein leiser Typ ist, hat er sich 1995 in Nuenen/Holland lautstark eingeführt. Wie wir alle wissen, neigen die Holländer zu grossen Meisterschaften und grossen Titeln über möglichst niedrige Hindernisse. So gewann er bei seiner ersten Teilnahme an einem internationalen Senioren Turnier bereits den inoffiziellen Europameistertitel; nota bene: vor einem kleinen Schweizer. Im Grand Prix waren die Positionen dann umgekehrt.

In der Folge gewann er alles, was es zu gewinnen gab. Viermal gewann er das Europa Cup Finale. Er wurde Einzel-Europameister und im Team. Andere haben mehr Springen gewonnen als er, aber er gewann die wichtigen. Er hat nie versucht, kleine Prüfungen zu gewinnen. Das hätte nicht zu seinem Charakter gepasst.

Die Zeit reicht leider nicht, um seine vielen internationalen und nationalen Erfolge im Springen bis Klasse “S” und im Zweispännerfahren aus der Zeit vor dem Seniorenalter aufzuzählen. Die VJR Erfolge hat er alle mit selbstgezogenen Pferden erreicht.

Vorbildlich waren nicht nur seine sportlichen Leistungen, sondern auch sein Stil, sein Umgang mit Pferden, seine Loyalität und seine Art Ratschläge zu erteilen: Leise und nur auf ausdrücklichem Wunsch. Seine Freunde hat er sich selbst ausgesucht. Er hat sich damals lautstark eingeführt, deshalb möchten wir ihn jetzt nicht einfach leise gehen lassen.

Der Vorstand schlug vor, Wolfgang Raabe mit einer kräftigen “Standing Ovation” zum 1. Ehrenmitglied der VJR zu ernennen.

Wolfgang Raabe wurde mit grossem Applaus zum 1. Ehrenmitglied in der Geschichte der VJR ernannt.

Die offizielle Würdigung erfolgte anlässlich der Jubiläumsfeier «10 Jahre VJR».

Today the Board unanimously proposes, following the nomination of Herbert Seiler, to elect a person from our association as Honorary Member.

The eulogy was held by Herbert Seiler:

He has been with us for a little over 10 years and would like to retire, although he is far from being one of the oldest amongst us.  Although he is a quiet kind of personality, he introduced himself to us with quite a fanfare in 1995 in Nuenen/Netherlands.  As we all know, the Dutch have a propensity for important championships and titles over the smallest possible obstacles.  So it was, that at his first international veteran tournament he won the unofficial title of European Champion, nota bene: ahead of a little Swiss.  In the Grand Prix the placings were then reversed.

Thereafter he won everything there was to win.  He won the European Cup final four times.  He became European Champion both individually and with his team.  Others have won more tournaments than he did, but he won the most important ones.  He never tried to win the small trials.  That would have been out of character.

Unfortunately there is not sufficient time to recount his many international and national successes in jumping up to the “S” class and in pair driving in his time before his veteran status.  He achieved all his VJR successes with horses which he breeded himself.

Not only his sporting achievements were exemplary – so also were his style, his handling of horses, his loyalty and his manner in giving advice: quietly and only when explicitly requested.  He chose his friends for himself.  Back then he introduced himself with a loud fanfare, which is why we do not wish to let him simply leave quietly now.

The Board proposes to appoint Wolfgang Raabe as 1st Honorary Member of VJR with an enthusiastic standing ovation.
With great applause Wolfgang Raabe was appointed the 1st Honorary Member in the history of VJR.

The official appreciation followed during the anniversary celebrations.

Le Comité propose aujourd’hui à pétition de Herbert Seiler de nommer membre d’honneur une personnalité de notre association. Herbert Seiler prononce le laudatio.

Il fait partie depuis 10 ans déjà de notre association et veut se retirer, bien qu’il ne soit pas encore aussi âgé que le plus vétéran d’entre nous. Malgré son caractère discret, il s’est fait fortement remarqué en 1995 à Nuenen/Hollande. Comme nous le savons tous, les Hollandais ont une faiblesse pour les grands Championnats et les grands titres avec des obstacles les plus bas possible. C’est ainsi qu’il gagna à sa première participation à un concours international de Vétérans déjà un titre, pas encore officiel, de Champion d’Europe; nota bene: devant un Suisse. Dans le Grand Prix les positions étaient inverses. Par la suite, il gagna tout ce qu’il y avait à gagner. Il gagna 4 fois la Finale de la Coupe d’Europe. Il a été Champion d’Europe en individuel et en équipe. D’autres ont gagné plus de concours que lui, mais il a gagné les plus importants. Il n’a jamais essayé de gagner les épreuves plus faciles. Cela n’allait pas avec son caractère.

Nous n’avons malheureusement pas assez de temps pour mentionner ses nombreux succès nationaux et internationaux de saut jusqu’à la classe “S” et en attelage double avant son entrée dans le sport vétéran. Il a remporté tous ses succès à la VJR avec des chevaux de son propre élevage.

Non seulement ses exploits sportifs ont été exemplaires, aussi son style, son attitude envers les chevaux, sa loyauté et sa manière de donner des conseils: discrètement et seulement sur demande. Il a choisi lui-même ses amis. Son entrée dans la VJR s’est fait remarquer d’une manière intensive et c’est pourquoi nous ne voulons pas une sortie discrète de notre association.

Le Comité propose de nommer comme 1er membre d’honneur de la VJR Wolfgang Raabe avec une puissante “Standing Ovation”.

Wolfgang Raabe est nommé sous  de grands applaudissements 1er membre d’honneur dans l’histoire de la VJR. 

La cérémonie officielle a eu lieu lors de la fête d’anniversaire  de la VJR.
